On July 14, 2010, new federal regulations were
released concerning the definition of Preventative Care. This is
important information because the new federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires
that health plans cover these services in full, without cost to the covered
person.
Most
Minnesota health plans already
voluntarily cover Preventative Care so the impact to premium costs in
Minnesota should be nominal. We
have been in contact with the carriers and know they are carefully
reviewing these new regulations to discern if their current list of covered
services matches up with the new federal requirements.
The effective date for this
new federal requirement is the plans first renewal following September 23,
2010,
unless the plan is exempt as a "grand-fathered" plan.
